An Icelandic woman's experience visiting the US

What is wrong with the United States of America? Is it the stimulus-response mechanism of experiencing terror → making war on terror → terrorizing? Are the United States of America a hysteric or paranoid nation?

I wonder if Erla Ósk Arnardóttir Lilliendahl (that's her correct name) will experience any excuse on the part of the U.S. administration, and I wonder if those responsible will be removed from office. If not, I would be inclined to declare the U.S.A. a closed mental hospital.

During the last twenty-four hours I have probably experienced the greatest humiliation to which I have ever been subjected. During these last twenty-four hours I have been handcuffed and chained, denied the chance to sleep, been without food and drink and been confined to a place without anyone knowing my whereabouts, imprisoned.
When we landed at JFK airport the traditional clearance process began.
I heard an official say that there was something which needed to be looked at more closely and I was directed to the work station of Homeland Security. There I was told that according to their records I had overstayed my visa by 3 weeks in 1995. For this reason I would not be admitted to the country and would be sent home on the next flight.
A chain was fastened around my waist and I was handcuffed to the chain. Then my legs were placed in chains.
So secured, I was taken from the airport terminal in full sight of everybody.
I spent the next 9 hours in a small, dirty cell.

Australian Guantanamo Prisoner released

How many supposed al Qaida members in Afghanistan are Mujahideen fighters that were defending Afghanistan against the Soviet Union with US, and CIA covert support?
When The US went into Afghanistan they knew they had plenty of 'Live' bait.
I keep wondering ow someone can be 'convicted' at a trial with no 'witnesses'.
The Prisoners at Guantanamo can become anything the US Authorities want them to be.
Of course what wasn't supposed to be torture wasn't brainwashing. The option was clear. You don't get out until you plead guilty.

An Australian who became the first person convicted at an American war crimes trial since World War II was freed from prison on Saturday, after completing his U.S. imposed sentence.

David Hicks, who was captured fighting with the Taliban in Afghanistan in December 2001, pleaded guilty in March to providing material support to al-Qaida after more than five years at at Guantanamo prison and returned to Australia to serve out his sentence.

The 32-year-old former kangaroo skinner was released from South Australia state's Yatala prison. He was met by his father and lawyer and driven away in a civilian car with a police escort. He was expected to make a statement later Saturday.

His father, Terry, said Hicks was likely to apologize for any inconvenience he has caused and to thank his supporters for helping to secure his release from Guantanamo Bay.

Terry Hicks and lawyer David McLeod said Hicks has been suffering from psychological problems stemming from his long detention at Guantanamo Bay

Big Coal's Dirty Plans for U.S.A. Energy Future

clipped from www.alternet.org

Big coal is hoping for government subsidies to replace oil. But its "clean coal" plan is an ecological nightmare for everyone.

Just as the American people and the world are beginning to recognize the necessity of shifting to renewable energies, Big Coal, in collusion with an out-of-step administration, is pushing their dirty fossil fuel as the solution to our nation's energy crisis.

Big Coal and its cohorts envision a "clean coal technology" future fuelled by liquefying and gasifying coal, capturing the carbon emissions and injecting them underground. By 2030 the West Virginia Division of Energy -- a nascent state agency formed in July, 2007 -- wants to oust oil and exalt coal by displacing the 1.3 billion gallons of foreign oil the state currently imports every year. But scientists and environmentalists say "clean coal" does not exist

The extraction and cleaning of coal inevitably decimate ecosystems and communities.

U.S. Falters in Terror Case Against 7 in Miami
14 Dec 2007

One of seven indigent men charged with plotting to blow up the Sears Tower in Chicago as part of an Islamic jihad was acquitted on Thursday, and a mistrial was declared in the prosecution of the six others after the jury said it was hopelessly deadlocked. The outcome was a significant defeat for the Bush regime, which had described the case as a major crackdown on homegrown terrorists.

Officials had acknowledged that the defendants, known as the Liberty City Seven for the depressed section of Miami where they frequently gathered in a rundown warehouse, had never acquired weapons or equipment and had posed no immediate threat. But, the officials said, the case underscored a need for pre-emptive terrorism prosecutions. [Oops! Guess not.]
